Picture this. Your flights are booked, the hotel is paid, and the kids have been counting down the days. Then, two days before you fly, your Dubai visa gets put on hold. The reason? Your photo has a light grey background instead of white.
It sounds small, and it is. But small things like this are exactly what hold up most visa applications.
In our experience, applications are rarely stuck for big reasons. They get stuck on small ones. So here is the checklist our own team uses, written in plain language, with the little details that make the difference.
The must-haves
These are needed for almost every Dubai tourist visa.
- Passport valid for at least 6 months from the day you land. Check the expiry date today, not the week before you fly.
- A clear colour scan of your passport. Both the front page and the last page (the one with your address). All four corners should be visible, with no glare from the phone flash.
- A recent photo with a pure white background. No glasses, no heavy filters. A studio photo costs very little and saves a lot of trouble.
- Return flight booking. A confirmed ticket is best. A flight itinerary also works in many cases.
- Where you will stay. A hotel booking, or the full address of the friend or relative hosting you.
The "just in case" documents
You may not always be asked for these, but keeping them ready means no last-minute running around.
- Bank statement for the last 3 to 6 months. It does not need to show a huge balance. It just needs to show you can comfortably cover your trip.
- PAN card copy.
- Travel insurance with medical cover. A hospital visit abroad can cost far more than the policy ever will.
- Old visas or stamps, if you have travelled before. A good travel history quietly works in your favour.
If you are travelling with kids
Parents often miss this part.
- The child's birth certificate
- Passport copies of both parents
- If one parent is not travelling, a simple signed consent letter from them
A small tip: keep printed copies in your hand luggage too. If your phone battery dies at immigration, paper never does.
If you run your own business
- GST certificate or company registration
- Your latest income tax return (ITR)
This helps show you have a reason to come back home, which matters more than most people think.
The little things nobody tells you
- Your name must match everywhere. "Mohd." on the ticket and "Mohammed" on the passport can cause a problem. Copy your name exactly as it is printed on your passport.
- Apply 7 to 10 days early. Around Diwali, Christmas, New Year and Eid, processing can slow down. Give yourself breathing room.
- Avoid non-refundable bookings before the visa is approved, if you can.
- Never overstay, not even by a day. Fines add up daily, and an overstay can make your next visa much harder.
- Save a copy of your approved visa on your phone and in your email. You will need to show it at check-in.
A quick check before you hit submit
- Passport valid for 6+ months
- Photo with a white background
- Name spelled the same on every document
- Flight and stay details ready
- Bank statement saved as a clear PDF
If you can tick all five, you are already ahead of most applicants.
Visa rules can change without much notice. Before you apply, double-check the latest requirements, or let us check them for you.
